Although the Vredestein Comtrac Ice winter tire cannot be attributed to the novelties of the well-known Dutch manufacturer, in terms of its operational properties, it still surpasses a significant part of its direct competitors, even those that appeared later. This was achieved through the continuous modernization of this model, which, year after year, due to minimal changes in the design, becomes better and better.
Optimized studding system
One of the main differences of this tire is the studding system used in it. It contains a number of solutions that provide maximum efficiency of these steel elements. In particular, the stud flange has a triangular shape, which significantly reduces the risk of it falling out of the tread.
In addition, it is impossible not to note the scheme of the studs' arrangement. It was selected in such a way that during movement they form eight so-called "anti-skid chains". This allows the tire to demonstrate reliable and stable traction on rolled snow and ice.
Two-layer tread
Another no less effective solution used in this model is the two-layer tread design. Its inner part is made of a more rigid compound, in which the stud seats are located. In addition, the presence of such a "substrate" has a positive effect on handling, responsiveness, and fuel efficiency.
In turn, the outer layer of the tread is made of a compound with increased silica content and functional polymers. On the one hand, this improves elasticity at low temperatures, and on the other hand, it provides increased resistance to cracking.
Main features of Vredestein Comtrac Ice
- optimized studding system, including a triangular shape of the stud flange that prevents their falling out, as well as their arrangement in such a way that they form the maximum number of longitudinal rows, which, in turn, provides excellent traction on ice;
- original design of the central part of the tread with a large number of mutually intersecting blocks improves directional stability and traction properties while reducing rolling resistance and high acoustic comfort;
- two-layer tread design, where the inner layer is made of a rigid compound, and the upper layer is characterized by increased elasticity at low temperatures.
