Description Pirelli Scorpion SX
The letters SX in the name of the summer motorcycle tire Pirelli Scorpion SX mean Super Cross. This sports discipline has several specific requirements for tires, which were taken into account in the development of this model. As a result, the Italian tire manufacturers once again received a very remarkable product that is equally well suited for racing and for having fun on rough terrain.
Block structure of the tread pattern
Since this model was initially developed for use on motocross tracks, its tread pattern has an open design, a large depth, and a large number of gripping edges. They are formed by a significant number of square blocks, the arrangement of which in the central and shoulder areas differs significantly due to the different functional purpose of these tread zones.
In the central part of the Pirelli Scorpion SX, the blocks form transverse ribs, which provide maximum traction and grip properties in the longitudinal direction. At the same time, the large distance between them allows the tread to easily get rid of even very large soil particles, thereby providing excellent passability on loose and earthen soils.
In turn, the blocks of the shoulder areas have slightly smaller sizes. At the same time, the scheme of their arrangement is chosen in such a way as to provide maximum stability during turns and sharp maneuvers.
New profile shape and tread size
Unlike the previous Scorpion SX model, it has a slightly different profile shape and tread size. The main goal of this innovation was to reduce the weight of the tire, and with it, the unsprung mass, as well as to increase the contact patch size. Weight reduction has made it easier to manage the motorcycle in the air, and the increased contact patch has provided the tire with higher resistance to lateral skidding.
Very rigid carcass
Another important feature of this model is a very rigid carcass. The increased strength and resistance to deformation have allowed the tire to more easily withstand impact loads, effectively absorbing them. When driving on uneven terrain, this feature significantly simplifies the process of managing the motorcycle, due to the reduction of the so-called "damping effect".
Main features of the Pirelli Scorpion SX tire
- symmetrical non-directional tread pattern with an open design provides excellent traction and grip properties in the longitudinal direction and stability during sharp maneuvers;
- optimized profile shape and tread size have significantly reduced the weight of the tire, making it easier to manage the motorcycle during jumps;
- rigid and very durable carcass improves stability on rough terrain, absorbing even very strong impact loads.
