The summer tire Nokian Hakka Z was specifically designed for powerful, fast cars and is aimed at car enthusiasts who value sporty handling as much as comfort. Despite the high-speed indices W and Y (up to 270 and up to 300 km/h, respectively), this model has excellent characteristics in any climatic conditions, including rainy and changeable weather. Compared to premium tires from other manufacturers, this model behaves more stably in conditions of sharp temperature fluctuations, rough asphalt, rutting, and uneven roads.
Nokian Cool Zone Concept
This tire is one of the first models developed in accordance with the concept of improved performance, which was named the Nokian Cool Zone Concept. The concept includes three innovative technical solutions - a multi-layer tread construction, a special tread profile, and a rubber mixture based on nanosilica.
The lower base layer, which is relatively thin, is made of a denser and harder rubber mixture, which reduces rolling resistance and heat generation. The upper layer is made of a more elastic rubber mixture with a higher content of silicon-containing components - silica. This allowed for a faster response of the tire to changes in road surface characteristics, which brought precision to the handling character. Despite the increased elasticity, all other operational characteristics of the Nokian Hakka Z tire remained at a high level, including the durability of the tread.
In addition, the new composition of the upper intermediate layers of the tread provided more stable behavior, especially on roads with pronounced rutting. Another advantage provided by the new Nordic Cool UHP Silica rubber mixture is more reliable traction on wet roads over a wide temperature range, including below 7 degrees Celsius. It is also worth noting the reduced noise level during movement, thanks to the nanosilica-based rubber mixture.
The tread, developed in accordance with the concept of improved performance, is equipped with an optimized S-shaped asymmetrical directional tread pattern, featuring a classic five-rib design for premium tires. The Finnish tire manufacturer equipped the tread of this model with three longitudinal ribs in the central part and two wide shoulder zones. A distinctive feature of the central longitudinal ribs is their massive construction, which has high structural rigidity. This technical solution allows the Nokian Hakka Z tire to demonstrate excellent course stability when driving at any speed, as well as exceptional braking efficiency. At the same time, the design of the entire central part of the tread is additionally reinforced with special stiffness ribs, which brought stability and reliability to the handling character in any conditions.
The third component of the improved performance concept is the special tread profile, which has a more flat radius of curvature. The new straightened radius of curvature of the tread made the handling more stable and reliable, especially in conditions of strong lateral accelerations - when cornering, making sharp maneuvers, and changing lanes. As a result, it was possible to ensure the predictability of the tire's behavior in extreme situations. In addition, thanks to the more flat tread profile, it was possible to significantly reduce the tire's heat generation, especially when driving at high speeds.
Reliability of the Finnish tire in rainy conditions
The level of safety when driving on wet roads depends mainly on the tire's ability to counteract aquaplaning. This model is characterized by high resistance to aquaplaning, thanks to the effective work of the water drainage system. When driving in wet conditions, water accumulates in four longitudinal drainage grooves and is then directed through numerous transverse grooves to the outside. At the same time, the longitudinal grooves are distinguished not only by their large depth and width but also by polished walls, which significantly increased the water circulation speed and, consequently, the efficiency of the entire drainage system. In addition to the polished surface, the bottom of the drainage grooves is equipped with special protrusions, and the walls are equipped with special cavities designed to reduce the noise level.
