Description Michelin X WORKS XDY
The Michelin X WORKS XDY cargo tire is one of the latest developments of the world-famous French tire giant. The novelty is designed for installation on the driving axles of trucks operated on low-quality roads, construction sites, and quarries. The size range includes two types for wheels with a mounting diameter of 22.5 and 24.5 inches.
Exceptional strength and durability
This model has received an absolutely new carcass, which is distinguished by exceptional strength and resistance to any type of aggressive mechanical impact. In particular, special rubber inserts have been added, which provide protection for the tread from stones. Additionally, this solution allowed for a significant improvement in ride softness, especially on highways. Compared to the previous model, the tire has a quarter more wide breaker layer made of steel, which significantly increased the tire's resistance to punctures and cuts. Below is a 4-layer metal cord, which provides the tire with exceptional strength and impact resistance.
Two-layer tread
One of the most noticeable innovations is the use of two different rubber compound compositions. The lower base layer is designed to reduce the degree of tire heating. The upper layer is made of a rubber compound that has increased resistance to abrasive wear.
Original tread pattern design
The Michelin X WORKS XDY model is equipped with a tread with a symmetrical directional pattern, which has an original V-shaped design. Its distinctive feature is the minimal number of tread elements, which form only 4 longitudinal ribs. This solution allowed for the maximum increase in the size of these elements, which led to a corresponding increase in the contact patch area. Additionally, one of the features of the V-shaped arrangement of tread elements is not only the large size of the contact patch but also the even distribution of pressure across it. This circumstance explains the excellent load-carrying capacity of the tire, as well as its excellent resistance to uneven wear.
It is also worth noting the block structure of the tread. The large number of separate blocks made it possible to provide the contact patch with a multitude of sharp edges. As a result, the tire demonstrates excellent traction characteristics, especially when driving on sand and mud, where the numerous blocks work just like grouser tires for specialized trucks.
Excellent self-cleaning properties of the tread
The distinctive feature of the drainage system of this model is the same adaptability to both water removal from the contact patch and removal of large and small soil particles. The latter ability appeared due to the appearance of special "stone ejectors" at the bottom of the drainage grooves.
Main features of the Michelin X WORKS XDY tire
- Increased contact patch area, excellent resistance to uneven wear, high directional stability, reduced rolling resistance, thanks to the optimized V-shaped design of the symmetrical directional tread pattern;
- Special "stone ejectors" located at the bottom of the drainage grooves provide excellent self-cleaning properties of the tread, which significantly improves the tire's off-road capability;
- The large height of the tread blocks, combined with their large number, allows the tire to demonstrate excellent traction characteristics, especially when driving on sand and mud.
