Summer tyre Michelin Primacy 5 Energy is designed for passenger cars and SUVs equipped with petrol, diesel, hybrid, and electric powertrains. The model is tailored for everyday driving, combining efficient wet braking performance with low rolling resistance and acoustic comfort. Special emphasis during development was placed on increasing tread life and reducing energy losses while driving.
Energy Passive 2.0 rubber compound
The tread features the Energy Passive 2.0 rubber compound, developed using next-generation elastomers and a new resin. The selection of components aims to balance wet grip, resistance to abrasive wear, and fuel efficiency. This addresses multiple requirements of modern road tyres, including the demands of electric vehicle operation. The manufacturer has also focused on maintaining wet braking performance throughout the tyre's life, testing it not only on new tyres but also as the tread wears down.
Slim Belt construction
One of the model's key features is the Slim Belt technology. The design uses thinner reinforcing layers while maintaining the required strength. Optimizing the belt package and adjacent layers helps reduce rolling energy losses. For internal combustion engine vehicles, this contributes to lower fuel consumption, while for electric vehicles it enables more efficient use of battery charge. Thus, efficiency is achieved through a combination of the rubber compound properties and the tyre's internal structure.
Even load distribution
MaxTouch technology optimizes the tread's contact with the road and pressure distribution across its working surface. During acceleration, braking, and cornering, forces are distributed more evenly, reducing the likelihood of premature wear on specific areas. Together with the wear-resistant compound, this contributes to a longer service life. This solution is particularly beneficial during frequent speed changes and maneuvering, typical of daily urban driving.
Two noise-reduction technologies
Acoustic comfort is ensured by Piano Acoustic and Silent Rib GEN3 technologies. The first involves optimizing the size and sequence of tread blocks to reduce unpleasant sound frequencies. The second relates to the tread rib design and reduces noise generated by block deformation and air displacement from grooves. Working together, these technologies make rolling quieter. The acoustic tuning is effective both on new tyres and as the tread wears down.
