Description Michelin Pilot Sport S 5
The Michelin Pilot Sport S 5 summer tire is designed for the most dynamic versions of passenger cars. Developed in close collaboration with leading global automakers, its design uses technologies and materials previously used in road-racing and track tires. It is characterized by uncompromising precision in handling and traction at high speeds, braking efficiency on dry and wet surfaces, as well as the "signature" ride comfort and fuel efficiency of tires from this brand.
Increased handling precision
One of the solutions "borrowed" from the brand's racing tires is the Dynamic Response technology. This is a combined structure of the carcass, in which nylon and aramid fibers are used. In combination with a special cord winding technology, this solution significantly reduces the weight of the carcass, providing its design with very high rigidity and resistance to deformation. In motion, this manifests itself in the form of lightning-fast and precise reactions of the tire to the driver's actions, as well as increased stability of the traction properties, especially when driving at high speeds and when dynamically passing turns. Such a carcass significantly reduces wear, ensuring a more even distribution of the car's weight on the road surface.
Excellent traction on dry and wet surfaces
The tire uses a Dual Sport tread pattern. It is made in an asymmetric design, most of which is occupied by shoulder zones, consisting of massive blocks. They increase stability and accuracy of handling in turns, preventing rapid wear of the tire during dynamic maneuvering. The three continuous longitudinal ribs located in the central part provide directional stability and reliable traction during straight-line driving, while reducing rolling resistance. The tread pattern contains a large number of lamellas with elongated edges at the edges. These elements, along with the wide longitudinal grooves, maintain the reliability of handling on wet surfaces. Another factor that ensures the stability of traction in any conditions is the rubber compound. Here, the Bi-Compound technology is used, a solution "borrowed" from the brand's motorcycle tires. The shoulder zones of the tread are made of an elastic compound that enhances traction when maneuvering and on wet surfaces. In turn, the central part is made more rigid, which increases directional stability and accuracy of handling during straight-line driving.
