Asymmetric tread element arrangement
A distinctive feature of the Matador MP-46 Hectorra 2 tire is that it is equipped with an asymmetric directional tread pattern. It consists of two functional zones - inner and outer. The inner zone has narrower tread elements separated by voluminous drainage grooves. Thanks to this, the contact patch always has a large number of traction edges, which, in combination with rapid water evacuation, provides excellent performance on wet surfaces.
The outer zone, on the other hand, has more massive tread elements spaced at a short distance from each other. Thanks to this, the tire demonstrates excellent stability during sharp maneuvers.
Maximum resistance to aquaplaning
The four longitudinal drainage grooves have a large volume, allowing them to rapidly drain the contact patch. As a result, maximum resistance to aquaplaning is ensured. Additionally, the walls of these grooves have a non-uniform angle of inclination. This allowed to further increase the rigidity of the longitudinal ribs, thereby improving the directional stability.
Rigid longitudinal rib
The wide longitudinal rib located on the outer side has very high rigidity. During straight-line driving, it helps the tire maintain directional stability, and due to its excellent resistance to dynamic deformation, it provides stability when cornering.
