The Kumho Wintercraft WP71 winter tire is one of the latest innovations from the South Korean manufacturer. Unlike previous models, this tire was developed with the specific operating conditions of Northern Europe and Russia in mind. As a result, this tire demonstrates much better traction on snow and ice than its predecessors, as well as good performance on cleared asphalt roads.
One of the key differences of this model is the increased number of blocks. This was achieved by significantly reducing their size. Additionally, their shape and arrangement were chosen to provide a contact patch with the longest and most diverse traction edges. At the same time, the drainage grooves between the blocks allow the tread to compact and retain a significant amount of snow, which improves traction.
The next characteristic feature of this tire's tread is the design of the lamella walls. In a vertical cut, they resemble honeycombs. The numerous protrusions maintain the stiffness of the blocks when the lamellas are open, which increases traction on icy surfaces.
