When designing the Ikon Autograph Ice LT4 model, a non-trivial task was set: to combine the requirements for the load capacity of light commercial vehicles with aggressive winter operation scenarios. Unlike standard "passenger" tyres, this tyre was initially developed taking into account the cyclic deformations of the carcass when fully loaded. The result was a design where the safety margin does not compromise the contact patch.
Geometry for icy surfaces
The depth of the tread layer here is dictated by calculations of wear resistance with a high torque. The tread pattern is built on the principle of "self-sharpening edges": a frequent grid of lamellas and a branched drainage system work in tandem, forming a "brush effect" on rolled snow.
The "shoulders" deserve special attention. Their shape is designed with variable stiffness: the base is massive to withstand twisting under load, and the upper part has beveled edges. This redistributes the point pressure over the contact patch, neutralizing "saw-tooth" wear. When entering a deep rut or loose soil, the lateral elements of the pattern work like mud catchers, actively evacuating the snow mass from under the wheel.
Reinforced construction and studding
The carcass is made according to a reinforced scheme using high-strength cord threads. The sidewall is adapted to increased internal pressure, which guarantees the stability of the geometry even at the maximum allowable vehicle mass.
The key element of winter efficiency is the tyre studs. In this model, inserts made of corrosion-resistant steel are used. This is a strategic decision: the reagents on winter roads aggressively affect the metal, and the loss of the stud shape leads to a deterioration in traction. The presented studding technology provides a rigid fixation in the seat, minimizing the risk of falling out during sharp accelerations or braking on ice. Thanks to this, the predictability of handling remains unchanged.
Elasticity and protection formula
The winter compound maintains its working elasticity at extremely low temperatures, providing a dense contact with the micro-roughness of ice. At the same time, the silica content is increased to reduce the heating of the carcass on dry road sections.
The AIR Matrix internal layer technology is "insurance" against micro-punctures and pressure losses. The sealing composition allows the tyre to hold its nominal pressure for longer, which is critical for uniform tread wear across the width.
Main features of Ikon Autograph Ice LT4:
- a radial carcass with an increased safety margin, specially adapted for light trucks and minivans;
- stainless steel studs have increased resistance to chemical reagents and guarantee stable braking on pure ice due to reliable fixation;
- wide zigzag-shaped grooves effectively drain meltwater and slush;
- variable stiffness of the shoulder areas prevents uneven wear when maneuvering in urban conditions.
