The winter tire Hankook W616 I*Cept IZ2, although named almost the same as the previous generation model, differs from it in both the design of the tread pattern and the internal structure. It was developed from scratch, with the specific road conditions of Northern Europe and Russia as a reference point, and the experience of Finnish colleagues in the field was taken into account during its creation.
It is for these reasons that the tread pattern has a V-shaped design, and the blocks have been significantly reduced in size. As a result, their number has increased by a quarter compared to the predecessor. The number of lamellas has also increased in a similar way. At the same time, the three-dimensional design of the sidewalls ensures the immobility of the blocks when they are open. This has had a positive effect on the traction properties on ice.
In the blocks of the shoulder zones, there are special lamellas-pumps. Thanks to their droplet-shaped form, they dry the contact patch when moving on ice, which additionally increases the traction properties and braking efficiency.
Like similar products from Finnish "colleagues", this model shows the highest performance at very low temperatures. This is mainly due to the rubber compound, which, due to the high content of silicon dioxide, remains elastic in such conditions.
The main features of Hankook W616 I*Cept IZ2:
- a quarter increase in the number of blocks and three-dimensional lamellas cut into them improves traction on ice;
- additional lamellas-pumps in the blocks of the shoulder zones increase the tire's performance when maneuvering on ice and braking;
- the composition of the rubber compound, selected taking into account the features of operation at very low temperatures.
