Description Hankook TH22
The Hankook TH22 truck tire, designed for trailers and semi-trailers used in interregional transportation, is distinguished by an exceptionally long service life and extremely low rolling resistance. These features make the acquisition of this model economically justified.
Low rolling resistance
As mentioned earlier, one of the distinctive features of this model is its extremely low rolling resistance, which ensures excellent fuel efficiency. This was achieved through the application of several technical solutions.
Firstly, it is the carcass, the cord of which is wound with steel wire of increased diameter. As a result, its profile remains unchanged even when driving at high speeds, during which strong dynamic deformations occur.
The next factor that ensured low rolling resistance for this tire was the symmetric non-directional tread pattern. It consists of five longitudinal ribs, three of which are completely devoid of any traction edges. The two remaining longitudinal ribs have transverse lamellas, which are arranged at a significant angle to the direction of movement, which also reduces rolling resistance without compromising other characteristics.
Long service life
In addition, this tire is favorably distinguished by a very long service life, which is also ensured by several design features. Firstly, it is the composition of the rubber mixture, some components of which made it possible to significantly increase the resistance of the tread to abrasive wear, which, in turn, led to a significant increase in its service life.
Another factor that increased the mileage and also prevented the separation of the tread layer was the symmetric non-directional tread pattern. As mentioned earlier, it consists of five longitudinal ribs, which are not only evenly distributed over its entire area but also have practically identical sizes. Such a layout made it possible to achieve optimal distribution of external load over the entire contact area, which, in turn, led to a significant increase in the tire's carrying capacity and resistance to uneven wear.
Excellent traction on dry and wet roads
A distinctive feature of the symmetric non-directional tread pattern of this tire is its high performance on both dry and wet roads. The reduced number of individual elements in the Hankook TH22 tread made it possible to increase their size, which led to a proportional increase in the contact patch area. At the same time, the practically flat tread profile provided it with a practically rectangular shape. As a result, the tire demonstrates excellent traction on dry roads.
Regarding traction on wet roads, it is mainly provided by the drainage system, which consists of four very voluminous longitudinal grooves. As an additional measure, the South Korean tire manufacturers offer a multitude of wave-shaped lamellas located on the surface of two of the three longitudinal ribs in the central part of the tread. During movement, these lamellas, opening up, form a multitude of additional transverse edges, which significantly reduce the braking distance on wet asphalt.
Main features of the Hankook TH22 tire
- single tire was specifically designed for trailers and semi-trailers;
- very low rolling resistance due to the tread pattern with a minimum number of individual elements and traction edges;
- excellent directional stability at high speeds is provided by five rigid longitudinal ribs;
- long service life due to a special rubber compound, reinforced carcass, and optimal distribution of external pressure over the contact patch;
- excellent traction on dry and wet roads is provided by the large size of the contact patch, numerous lamellas, and a highly efficient drainage system capable of instantly removing a large amount of water from the tread.
