Goodyear UltraGrip 600

The Goodyear UltraGrip 600 winter tire has been released as a replacement for the UltraGrip Ice Arctic model. Despite having a different name, the new tire uses the same technical solutions as its predecessor, but with some differences. These differences have allowed for significant improvements in key characteristics, starting from traction properties on ice and ending with braking distance.

Optimized drainage groove layout

One of the key features of the tire's tread pattern design is the layout and shape of the drainage grooves. As before, they form the letter V in the central part. But now there are more grooves, and a significant part of them is angled more aggressively. This solution has improved the tire's resistance to aquaplaning and slushplaning, which was not a problem for buyers of the previous model. A more important advantage is the improvement of traction properties on snow, including during acceleration and deceleration. Due to the changed design of the groove layout scheme, the tread area in the central part has numerous V-shaped edges that effectively prevent slipping on snowy surfaces.

Saw-toothed grooves

Another difference from the previous model is the "move" of saw-toothed grooves to the shoulder areas. These elements, due to their shape, can not only capture snow but also hold it, thereby improving traction. This feature is most pronounced during longitudinal acceleration on snowy surfaces.

"Steel teeth"

The next innovation was the change in the scheme of stud placement. Now, most of them are located closer to the shoulder areas, but at the same time, the distance between them in the longitudinal direction has become much smaller. As a result, better traction on ice during acceleration and deceleration, as well as directional stability, is ensured. It is worth noting the unchanged technology of stud fixation in the tread, which is not surprising if we consider its reliability, demonstrated by the previous model.

Lamellas

The model uses a slightly different scheme of lamella placement than before. The edges formed by them now have a straight, not angular, shape. And the angle of their inclination relative to the direction of movement has become much smaller. This solution has allowed for significant improvement in traction and braking properties on wet surfaces, rolled snow, and ice.
