When developing the Goodyear Eagle NCT5 summer tire, North American tire manufacturers tried to cater to the widest possible range of customers, including lovers of all things "green". Creating a tire product with such versatile capabilities proved to be not an easy task, even with the use of numerous technological innovations. Judging by the popularity of this model around the world, it was done quite well.
Tread Blocks with Programmable Deformation
The tread pattern of this tire contains many blocks. Their shape and size are selected in such a way that when loaded, they increase the area of contact with the road. As a result, traction is improved. Additionally, this design provides the tire with significant resistance to wear and gives it very predictable handling, which is practically unaffected by external factors.
Extended Functionality of Shoulder Zones
Another distinctive feature of the tread construction of this tire is the closed design of its shoulder zones. They contain many individual transversely arranged blocks connected by rigid bridges. These tread elements, due to their solid construction, prevent the spread of noise generated by numerous tread elements in the center. It is also impossible not to note the positive impact of these design features on a number of other operational properties. Most significantly, they improve braking performance and resistance to lateral skidding.
