The Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar summer tire, like other representatives of the "Eagle" line of the well-known North American manufacturer, belongs to the Ultra High Performance category, which guarantees exceptional traction properties, both on dry and wet asphalt-concrete pavement. This is mainly ensured by the combination of an asymmetric tread pattern and an optimized rubber compound composition.
Active CornerGrip
One of the features of this model is the Active CornerGrip technology. Its main functional purpose is to provide maximum traction and stability when cornering and making sharp maneuvers. To do this, the North American tire makers strengthened the tire's sidewalls, which became more rigid. As a result, the contact patch retains its shape and size unchanged in any driving mode.
At the same time, the stiffness of the sidewalls is different, since the asymmetric tread pattern applied in this tire unevenly distributes the external load across the contact patch. This allows the car to very smoothly transition to the active phase of cornering, while maintaining excellent directional stability. Due to this, the management process is significantly simplified, especially when driving at high speeds.
Multi-Functional Tread Pattern
One of the key features of the Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tire is the asymmetric tread pattern, the design of which can be called unique in many aspects. First of all, it is six longitudinal ribs, five of which have a block structure, i.e., consist of many individual elements. During driving, they create a large number of traction edges, thereby ensuring maximum efficiency, both when accelerating and braking.
The only solid element is one longitudinal rib located on the inside of the tread pattern. It is this part of the tread that experiences maximum pressure during straight-line driving. Due to its high resistance to dynamic deformation and massive size, this tread element allows the tire to maximize its directional stability at high speeds and significantly reduce the reaction time to steering. As a result, the tire's handling has become refined, and driving a car has become easier and more enjoyable.
Among other strong points of this model, one cannot help but note its high stability even at high lateral accelerations. This is due not only to the rigid sidewalls but also to the design of the shoulder areas of the tread pattern. They contain many massive blocks of rectangular shape, the long sides of which are located at a right angle to the direction of movement. On the one hand, this made it possible to maximize the deformation resistance in the transverse direction, and on the other hand, to achieve a significant reduction in braking distance.
And, of course, one cannot fail to mention the traditional strong point of all Goodyear summer tires, namely, their traction properties on wet roads. This model is no exception in this regard. Moreover, the Eagle F1 Supercar stands out for its excellent traction on wet asphalt, even compared to other Goodyear tires. This was achieved through the combination of an optimized tread pattern design and a special rubber compound composition. However, more on that later.
As mentioned earlier, five of the six longitudinal ribs of the tread pattern of this tire have a block structure. Due to this, the tread has an incredibly developed drainage system, saturated to the limit with transverse channels. This allows it to easily cope with the removal of a huge amount of water from the contact patch, thereby ensuring high resistance to aquaplaning at speeds where most other tires simply lose traction.
Another factor that ensured this model's exceptional traction properties on wet asphalt is the rubber compound, or rather, some features of its composition. In particular, it contains a number of polymeric compounds and silica, thanks to which reliable and stable traction with a wet surface is ensured.
Speaking of the rubber compound, one cannot help but mention another feature of its composition. It contains carbon black filler, which is present in the same amount as in tires used in auto racing. This significantly increases the tread's resistance to abrasive wear, which significantly extends its service life.
