Winter tyre Falken Eurowinter HS02 is designed for passenger cars. The model combines a directional tread pattern, two types of 3D sipes, and a rubber compound developed using Advanced 4D-Nano Design technology. These features are engineered to deliver snow traction, wet-road stability, and dry-surface handling.
Directional V-shaped tread pattern
Tread blocks are arranged symmetrically relative to the central line. Diagonal grooves form a V-shaped pattern, running from the center of the tread to the shoulder areas. This design helps channel water out of the contact patch and enhances resistance to aquaplaning.
Tread block edges feature stepped 3D chamfers. These help grip and retain snow within the tread pattern, improving acceleration traction and braking grip on snowy roads. The stepped shape also promotes self-cleaning of the tread.
Two types of 3D sipes
In the central area, Miura-Ori sipes with a complex three-dimensional shape are used. Positioned in multiple directions, they create additional biting edges for snow grip. This design enhances transmission of driving and braking forces on snow-covered surfaces.
Shoulder blocks feature interlocking 3D sipes. Under load, their elements support each other, limiting block deformation. This helps maintain shoulder zone stiffness, which is crucial for stability and precise steering response. The combination of two sipe types is designed for reliable performance on snow, as well as on wet and dry asphalt.
Compound and construction
Advanced 4D-Nano Design technology was used in developing the tread compound to improve wet-surface grip, increase wear resistance, and reduce rolling resistance. Additionally, the tyre's shape and structure have been optimized to reduce weight. Lighter construction lowers the vehicle's unsprung mass and further contributes to reduced rolling resistance.
