The winter non-studded tire Dunlop Winter Maxx SJ8 is one of the novelties of the world-famous British manufacturer, now owned by the Goodyear corporation. Like the previous model, this tire is designed primarily for owners of crossovers, SUVs, and other vehicles with increased passability. Another distinctive feature of the Winter Maxx SJ8 is its excellent applicability. This model is offered in thirty different sizes for wheels with a landing diameter from 15 to 19 inches.
Improved traction properties on winter roads
According to sociological research conducted by Dunlop among buyers of its products, an overwhelming majority of respondents were satisfied with the use of the previous model. At the same time, many of them noted the excellent traction properties on snow and ice.
The new model has become even better in this regard. This is largely due to the unique 4D Nano Design technology. It is essentially a set of technical solutions that affect most of the tire's components, from the tread pattern to the composition of the rubber mixture. Its effectiveness can be judged by the braking distance on ice, which the Winter Maxx SJ8 demonstrated. It turned out to be 11% shorter than that of the Grandtrek SJ7, which cannot be called helpless on icy roads.
Increased number of lamellas
A significant part of the Winter Maxx SJ8's advantage is provided by the increased number of lamellas. The British tire makers managed to simultaneously increase the density of the lamellation of the tread pattern by a quarter. At the same time, the lamellas became significantly longer, and their edges - sharper. Such design features allow the contact patch to be equipped with traction edges that easily penetrate the water film on the surface of the ice.
T-shaped grooves
Another original innovation was the T-shaped grooves located in the tread blocks of the central part. Their main functional purpose is to provide maximum traction properties in the longitudinal direction, as well as the accuracy and speed of executing the driver's commands. This significantly simplifies the process of controlling the vehicle when driving on snowy roads.
High-performance drainage system
When developing the Dunlop Winter Maxx SJ8, special attention was paid to resistance to aquaplaning and slushplaning. To achieve this, the longitudinal drainage grooves located in the central part of the tread were given a zigzag shape. It promotes faster accumulation of moisture entering through the adjacent transverse drainage grooves. In combination with the significant internal volume of these tread elements, this design feature allows the tire to quickly get rid of not only almost any amount of water but also of much heavier masses of thawed snow. As a result, the Winter Maxx SJ8 demonstrates excellent resistance to both aquaplaning and slushplaning, providing reliable traction even in the most unfavorable weather conditions.
