The Bridgestone Potenza Race summer tire is designed for the most dynamic versions of passenger cars. It comes as the original equipment for the Lamborghini Huracan STO and SEAT Leon Cupra. It represents a racing "semi-slick" tire that is allowed to be used on public roads. However, this model demonstrates its greatest effectiveness on sports tracks during so-called "track days".
The asymmetric tread pattern is distinguished by a hypertrophied outer shoulder zone without any voids. This design makes this part of the tread very rigid, providing excellent stability and precision handling. The inner part of the pattern contains a very small number of sipes and grooves to somehow improve traction on wet pavement, essentially being a compromise solution.
The tire was developed using computer modeling technologies. This allowed for the creation and testing of countless digital versions of this model, predicting its behavior in various conditions, and selecting only the most effective one. This approach also allowed for a 33% reduction in material consumption for manufacturing test tire samples, as well as expanding the size range. Currently, it is available in 13 variants for wheels with a rim diameter from 17 to 20 inches, i.e., almost all "hot" hatchbacks and most supercars.
Some solutions were "borrowed" from racing tires for Formula 1. First and foremost, this is the rubber compound, the composition of which was only slightly adapted taking into account the much lower capabilities of publicly available passenger cars. It is distinguished by rapid heating to operating temperatures, excellent resistance to abrasive wear and the formation of small cracks, and increased grip on cold wet pavement.
