For the anniversary Volkswagen Golf GTI, exclusive tires were prepared
Bridgestone has developed exclusive semi-slick tires for the new Volkswagen Golf GTI Edition 50, presented in honor of the 50th anniversary of the famous hot hatch. The new model has become the fastest and most powerful serial Golf GTI in history, and the 19-inch Bridgestone Potenza Race tires were included in the optional GTI-Performance package.
The tires were developed in Europe and feature optimized rubber compound and cavity profile, which improved dry road performance, while the tread pattern allows the tires to be effective on wet surfaces as well, and the high-strength lightweight carcass reduces rolling resistance and fuel consumption.
The premiere of the Golf GTI Edition 50 took place during the 24-hour race at the legendary German circuit "Nürburgring", where the new model has already set a record for serial Volkswagen cars. Professional driver Bеньямин Lёйхтер drove the "North Loop" of the circuit, which is 20.82 km long, in 7 minutes 46.13 seconds, and the tires, as emphasized by Bridgestone, "provided stable ultra-high grip throughout the lap, as well as the precision handling and control needed to make history at the 'Nürburgring'"

"The exclusive Potenza Race tires were designed to allow the Golf GTI Edition 50 to reach its full potential, — noted Radosław Bolkowski, Vice President of Sales in the Original Equipment sector at Bridgestone EMEA. — Our entire team was very pleased that they set a new record, and this demonstrates what can be achieved through close collaboration between two brands focused on achieving the best results"
The semi-slicks are fitted to the Golf GTI Edition 50 in size 235/35 R19, and the fact that they were developed for Volkswagen is indicated by a special marking on the sidewalls. The production involves Bridgestone's European facilities.
