The summer tire Barum Vanis 2, as can be guessed from the name, is designed exclusively for light commercial vehicles - minivans and light trucks. It is a further development of the Vanis model, which is still trusted by domestic car enthusiasts. However, the new product differs in even higher operational characteristics.
Resistance to aquaplaning
Unlike the previous generation tire, Barum Vanis 2 significantly better resists aquaplaning. This was achieved thanks to three wide longitudinal grooves located along the entire tread. The increased size allows for a significantly larger volume of water to be accommodated, which is then drained through a system of transverse grooves outside the tread. As a result, the tire demonstrates excellent resistance to aquaplaning even on very wet roads.
S-shaped tread pattern design
The Barum Vanis 2 tire has a completely new tread pattern design, which provides it with excellent traction characteristics, but at the same time deprives it of the ability to overcome sections without asphalt coverage. I.e. this tire is designed for operation exclusively on roads with solid pavement. Like its predecessor, the tire's tread is replete with many individual blocks, but their shape and arrangement have become completely different. The choice in favor of an S-shaped tread pattern design is due to the desire to provide the tire with a balance between handling, comfort, and durability.
The tread pattern, like most competitors, consists of four longitudinal ribs formed by two rows of central tread blocks and two shoulder zones. The two longitudinal ribs in the center consist of individual blocks. These tread elements have a complex configuration with many angles and sharp edges. In combination with massive sizes, this made it possible to significantly increase the effectiveness of braking on dry pavement.
As for rainy conditions, the shoulder zones of the tread come into play, also divided into separate blocks by drainage grooves. But, unlike the blocks located in the central part of the tread, their edges have a greater length and are arranged almost perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the wheel. As a result, the tire demonstrates a shorter braking distance, especially on wet roads, compared to most competitors.
Another key feature of the Barum Vanis 2 tire is its practically flat tread pattern profile. This gave it a whole range of significant advantages. First of all, it is a more even distribution of external pressure over the contact patch. This not only improved handling characteristics, which became more reliable and predictable, but also significantly reduced the likelihood of developing such a negative phenomenon as uneven tread wear. The latter circumstance made it possible to significantly improve the tire's service life.
Sidewall protection
Since the tire is designed for light commercial vehicles, the operation of which takes place mainly in urban conditions, the Czech tire manufacturers have taken a number of measures to protect the most vulnerable part of the tire. We are talking about its sidewalls, which have received special reinforcements. This made it possible to significantly increase the resistance to the aggressive effects of concrete curbs.
Low noise level
As you know, the previous model caused complaints in terms of noise and vibration. The new tread pattern made it possible to significantly reduce the scale of the problem. In addition to the classic method of varying the pitch of the tread blocks, the company's specialists placed special blind grooves in the shoulder zones of the tread. They are located on the inside of the shoulder zones, which does not allow the noise to spread beyond the tread.

- A new symmetrical non-directional tread pattern provides excellent traction in any conditions;
- Excellent resistance to aquaplaning is ensured by three longitudinal drainage grooves of increased volume;
- A practically flat tread pattern profile made it possible to significantly increase the contact patch area, while improving the evenness of the external pressure distribution over it;
- Special blind grooves in the shoulder zones of the tread contribute to a significant reduction in noise;
- Sidewalls with protection against scuffs allow the tire's service life to be extended.
