The Atlas brand has deep American roots. The first tires of the brand appeared on the roads of the USA back in 1935 at the gas stations of Standard Oil. Currently, these tires are produced at the plants of one of the world's largest tire manufacturers. The development was handled by engineers from countries on the TIER-1 list. At the same time, a proprietary rubber compound is used, which is why Atlas tires are distinguished by stable traction and an extended tread life. Currently, this brand offers a huge selection of tires for passenger and commercial vehicles with a rim diameter from 13 to 24.5 inches.
The Atlas tire lineup for passenger vehicles consists of 6 models, but each of them is offered in dozens of sizes. All tires are distributed across the following categories:
- for passenger vehicles — High Performance/Ultra High Performance;
- for SUVs and crossovers;
- for light trucks.
The absence of commercial vehicle tires in the "passenger" lineup is due to the aforementioned American roots of the brand. This market niche is closed by the Parallel HT and 4x4 HT tires, originally designed for pickups. Such tires are distinguished by high load-carrying capacity for their class. At the same time, some sizes have an increased tread depth of up to 11 mm and the use of a reinforced carcass with a cord with a larger number of steel cord layers. As a result, the load-carrying capacity can reach 1550 kg.
The passenger tire lineup consists of two Force models - HP and UHP. One of them is more suitable for everyday use, characterized by a set of operational properties in which comfort prevails. In turn, Force UHP demonstrates more advanced technological solutions, starting from an asymmetric tread pattern and ending with the use of 3D-lamellas. This provides more stable traction at high speeds, improved traction and braking properties on wet surfaces, as well as more accurate and faster handling.
Based on the range of tires offered by Atlas, it can be concluded that the production of tires for commercial vehicles and buses is a key area of its activity. Several dozen models cover almost all scenarios of using commercial equipment. They are distributed across the following categories:
- long-haul transportation;
- urban and regional transportation;
- mixed operating conditions.
The lineup of tires for long-haul transportation includes models not only for trucks but also for large-capacity buses. Another point worth noting is the possibility of installing a significant part of the long-haul tires of this brand not on one, but on several axles. As a rule, this is the steering axle of the truck and the carrying axles of trailer equipment. The set of operational properties of long-haul tires implies the allocation of fuel efficiency, resistance to abrasive wear, directional stability at high speeds, as well as smoothness of ride.
Tires for urban and regional transportation are represented mainly by universal models, which are recommended for installation on all axles of trucks and buses. Such tires are characterized by the use of special tread patterns with an increased number of gripping edges. This improves traction stability on wet surfaces and gives the tire an additional softness of ride. The composition of the rubber compound is somewhat different. Such compounds are characterized by increased strength and the absence of small cracks even at high mileage.
The Atlas tire lineup for mixed conditions is designed for commercial and special vehicles used both on paved and unpaved roads. Such models are distinguished by a reinforced carcass design, the use of particularly strong compounds, as well as a thicker tread. This significantly increases the reliability and durability of the tire in the most unfavorable conditions. In addition, such models use tread patterns with wide multidirectional grooves and high blocks, which provide high traction and coupling properties on loose unstable surfaces.
