The coupling properties on complex winter roads are largely ensured by the features of the tread design. It is distinguished by the presence of a huge number of blocks for tires in this category. These elements have numerous high edges, with which the tire effectively grips even the most slippery surface.
Grip on slippery surfaces and wear resistance
All blocks have a lamella - a narrow slit. This element performs several functions at once. One of them is the formation of additional coupling edges, thanks to which the tire shows more confident behavior on slippery surfaces. In addition, the lamellas provide the blocks with some mobility, which significantly increases their contact area with the road. On the one hand, this enhances coupling, and on the other hand, it optimizes the distribution of external load, preventing uneven wear.
Resistance to aquaplaning
The open design of the tread ensures another advantage. We are talking about the effect of aquaplaning, the risk of which is extremely low due to the presence of a large number of blocks. They are separated from each other by wide and deep drainage grooves, which quickly remove water from the contact patch, not allowing the tire to float above the road surface.
