The Metzeler Tourance Next motorcycle tire is the latest representative of the Tourance line, prepared by this German manufacturer for the upcoming season. Like other models in this family, this tire is designed for large and heavy motorcycles in the category of so-called "road enduro". I.e., this tire is addressed to owners of motorcycles that are equally well-suited for operation in both urban conditions and on light off-road. The excellent operational characteristics are evidenced by the fact that this model is included in the factory equipment of such a well-known representative of road "enduro" as the BMW R 1200 GS.
The German tire manufacturers have equipped the novelty's tread with a pattern that is more suitable for roads with a solid surface, i.e., the Metzeler Tourance Next motorcycle tire is intended for operation, first and foremost, in the city. The fact is that the tread has a minimal number of engagement edges, which forces caution when moving outside of roads – in the best case, these are gravel or earthy coatings.
However, on asphalt, this tire demonstrates excellent grip, both in dry and rainy weather. Thanks to the presence of a fairly large number of drainage channels arranged in different directions, the tire is distinguished by excellent resistance to aquaplaning, which ensures a high level of safety when driving in rainy conditions. Additionally, the composition of the rubber mixture is selected in such a way as to give the tire excellent grip properties, especially on cold and wet road surfaces. To a large extent, such characteristics were achieved thanks to the use of a two-layer tread, for each of which different rubber mixtures were used. The lower layer has higher stiffness to make the tire more rigid to dynamic deformation, and the upper layer is elastic due to silica, which provides a tighter fit to the road surface.
