The company was officially formed in 1904, when Henry Royce (an enthusiast who owned a small workshop) and Charles Rolls (a famous racing driver) signed a cooperation agreement. Having established production, they began actively producing engines and chassis for cars on order. Notably, at that time, the body was made separately according to individual orders by external organizations. Soon, Rolls-Royce switched to producing fully equipped vehicles. A significant part of the popularity of the new brand's cars was brought by Rolls, who often participated in races on them, taking leading positions.

In 1910, a tragedy occurred - Rolls died in a plane crash. In his honor, Royce later founded an aviation division, which during World War II was engaged in the development and production of engines for most US and British aircraft, thereby significantly strengthening the company's financial position.

For several decades, the manufacturer felt confident, supplying its creations not only to wealthy people but also to members of the royal family. However, in the 1960s, the situation changed. The financial crisis, protracted projects - all this led to bankruptcy. Even nine years of government support did not help. As a result, the company was put up for sale and sold in parts. It was divided between BMW and Volkswagen. Some time later, Volkswagen sold its share to the Bavarian manufacturer. It was in their workshops that the legendary model "Phantom" was developed, which is still famous today.

Current Situation

Despite its unprofitability, the company is actively supported by the UK government, considering it its property. Moreover, BMW is now doing everything possible to restore the greatness of Rolls-Royce in its entirety.
