Tires on Foton View G5 (Фотон)

The serial production of the Foton View G5 minibus has been carried out since 2019. It represents the result of a large-scale modernization of the MP-X model, with the preservation of the concept, striving to adapt the machine to the changed requirements for such equipment, primarily in terms of versatility in application. Unlike its utilitarian predecessor, the car received a more pronounced "civilian" character and began to be offered in a wider range of versions, from business shuttles to family minivans, representing a less expensive alternative to the Toyota HiAce and Hyundai H-1.

    Differences from Foton MP-X

While maintaining the platform and layout of the predecessor, the G5 favorably stood out against its background, primarily due to the redesigned design. Especially in the front part - a new radiator grille with horizontal chrome bars, narrowed headlights, and a "seagull wing" bumper with integrated "fog lights". This brought the car closer to modern minivans, which stopped evoking associations with utilitarian commercial vans.

Changes also affected the rear part. Redesigned lights appeared, and the trunk lid received a more pronounced shape. For top-end versions, body-colored elements became available. The wheelbase and main dimensions remained virtually unchanged. The length of the long-base version exceeds 5.3 meters, thanks to which it was possible to preserve a spacious passenger salon and luggage compartment inside, the strong points of the previous model.

    Technical components

The engine range of the model started with a 2-liter petrol "atmospheric" engine with 136 horsepower. Its presence is due solely to the desire to minimize the cost of the car, ensuring a high level of reliability. A more suitable engine for it was the 2.4-liter petrol engine, developing 160 horsepower and 220 Nm of torque. Both power units were combined with a 5-speed "mechanics" and rear-wheel drive through a non-split axle. In combination with leaf springs, such a set provided excellent reliability during intensive operation with high loads. The negative moments of such solutions were largely leveled by the front suspension with "MacPherson" struts and springs.

    Passenger capabilities

The most striking difference from the predecessor was the salon. The front console is made in a modern style, which in top-end versions was supplemented with a multimedia complex with an 8-inch display, a rear-view camera, wireless connection of wearable gadgets, and USB connectors. The number of seats varied depending on the configuration. The most common were versions for 7, 9, and 11 people. The second row in passenger versions received softer seats with an improved profile, which could be equipped with separate armrests for an additional fee. Additional attention was paid to noise insulation. In the MP-X, when driving at high speeds, a significant amount of aerodynamic noise penetrated into the salon, while the G5 received thicker door seals and additional floor insulation. The high seating position and large glass area provide good visibility.

    Equipment and electronic systems

The next important feature was the extensive set of equipment, starting from the "middle" versions of the configuration. The list of equipment includes air conditioning, electric windows, central locking, multimedia, parking sensors, and a rear-view camera. In expensive versions, there are leather seats, climate control, and a multi-functional steering wheel. Safety systems have also been modernized. The manufacturer added ABS, EBD brake force distribution system, and front airbags. For export markets, versions with a stabilization system were offered.

Practicality and comfort in daily operation

While maintaining reliability and the possibility of operation over a long period, the G5 stood out from the previous model with a large number of usage scenarios. It was equally well suited for transporting both cargo and passengers. The high roof makes it easy to move inside the salon, and the wide sliding doors make boarding convenient even in tight conditions. Thanks to the frame chassis, the minibus withstands operation on poor roads. It is worth noting the use of 195/70 R15C and 215/75 R16C wheels in the factory configuration. Such products are distinguished by significant carrying capacity and strength, along with wear resistance and rolling resistance. And in the online store "Mosavtoshina" it is easy to pick up models that will help adapt this van to various operating conditions.
