The Brilliance automobile brand was created by the Chinese company Huachen Automotive Group Holdings Co. Ltd. Currently, all production facilities of this brand belong to BMW, which uses them to produce cars of the German brand for sale in mainland China. In addition, Brilliance Auto has a controlling stake in a joint venture with Renault, which is engaged in the development and sale of light commercial vehicles, both of the French brand and the Chinese brands Jinbei, Huasong.

History

The company's roots go back to a state-owned automobile plant, which was headed by one of the founders of Brilliance Auto Group, Yang Rong, from 1991 to 2002. During this period, the enterprise was one of the leading manufacturers of microbuses in China. In 2003, the company signed an agreement with the German BMW to create a joint venture to produce European brand sedans in China, primarily models of the 3rd and 5th series. It is worth noting that these models differed only slightly from the "original", since about 60% of the components used in their assembly were imported from Europe. The exception was the engines, which were produced in China.
Another important partner of Brilliance Auto Group is the French company Renault. In 2017, an agreement was signed to create a joint venture to produce light commercial vehicles, SUVs, and crossovers under the French brand and the local Jinbei brand.

Brilliance in Russia

The Chinese company appeared on the Russian market as early as 2006, presenting the M1 sedan. Later, the M2 model appeared at dealerships. Both cars did not gain significant sales, and after three years, the manufacturer almost left the Russian market. The second appearance of cars of this brand occurred in 2014, when the company brought the V5 crossover to the country, which also did not find a significant number of buyers.
