In Thailand, counterfeit tires from China were found

Thailand's Ministry of Industry is conducting an investigation into an unnamed Chinese tire manufacturer over allegations of smuggling and falsifying labels on substandard tires for resale as new products, reports The Nation.

A source at the ministry noted that the company's name is not being disclosed in the interests of the investigation. According to him, the firm received investment privileges as part of a project to produce automotive tires in Thailand using imported materials from China. However, the ministry received information that tires that do not meet safety and quality standards were illegally imported from China, from which the original logos and brand names were allegedly removed, and new labels were applied before sale.

It is also reported that a significant portion of the tires are labeled "Made in Thailand" and were intended for export. "The ministry fears that if substandard tires are exported as products made in Thailand, it could seriously damage the country's image in the global market," the source said.

A team of inspectors was sent to the factory for inspection, and the company will be required to provide an official explanation. After that, the ministry will summarize its findings and submit a report to Thailand's Minister of Industry, Akanat Promphan, who will decide on further actions.
