In January-June 2024, sales of passenger car tires in Russia grew by 10%, from 9.4 million units a year earlier to 10.34 million tires. Passenger car tires accounted for 39% of total tire sales (24.1 million units), according to data from the CRPT (operator of the "Honest Sign" brand), which is cited by Vedomosti.

According to the results of the first half of 2024, 22.6 million tires were produced in Russia, which is 17% more than a year earlier, while imports increased by 20% to 17.6 million tires. The CRPT notes that in the first six months of 2024, the production of passenger and commercial tires in the country increased by 25% and 7%, respectively, while the production of truck tires decreased by 15%. Imports grew in the passenger and truck tire segments (by 30% and 8%), but decreased in the light commercial vehicle tire sector (by 21%).

The average price of a new passenger car tire in 2024 was 6,079 rubles, which is 13% more than in the first half of last year. At the same time, the cost of truck tires decreased by 4% to 24,180 rubles.

According to Varvara Mikhailova, head of the CRPT product group, the growth in tire production is connected, among other things, with the "whitening" of the market. "We are seeing that the share of counterfeit products on the market has decreased by half. This has given honest businesses the opportunity to occupy the vacated shares and increase the volume of their products," she said.

It is also noted that the departure of several foreign manufacturers from Russia has created opportunities for new suppliers, primarily from Asia, who offer products at more democratic prices. "Since consumer preferences have shifted towards budget options, this has also contributed to the growth in sales," Mikhailova said.
