SENSING CORE from Sumitomo enhances safety and strategy in motorsports
As part of creating a safer and more sustainable future, SENSING CORE, a contactless technology developed by Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd. (SRI), underwent testing during the 2025 season in the Nürburgring Endurance (NLS) races on Falken Porsche 911 GT3 R cars. In the harsh conditions of motorsports, it demonstrated its potential in enhancing safety, efficiency, and even optimizing pit stop times.
Unlike traditional systems, SENSING CORE uses the tire itself as a sensor for continuous real-time monitoring of tire wear, road surface, wheel load, and pressure without the need for additional equipment. Importantly, the system also detects loose wheel nuts, making a significant contribution to vehicle safety. The network data interaction through the cloud enables the exchange of valuable information about road or track conditions, which is beneficial for both passenger cars and motorsports.
