Russians have started buying used tires more often

Russians' interest in purchasing used tires is "rapidly growing," according to Izvestia, citing data from "Avito Goods," which shows that the share of sold used Pirelli tires has increased from 52% to 62% year over year, and in the case of Yokohama tires, this figure has grown from 52% to 55%. The growth was even more noticeable among buyers of Cordiant tires, from 54% to 69%.

According to analysts, "such growth is related to a rational approach to purchasing: users are increasingly considering resale as an opportunity to purchase high-quality tires from well-known brands at a more affordable price."

According to the Center for Research of the Automotive Market (operator of the "Honest Sign" labeling system), in January-March 2026, sales of summer tires on the Russian market increased by 41% in units and by 30% in value, reaching 8.6 billion rubles, and the owner of the "Alliance Trac" network, Alexei Ivanov, notes that "in general, new tires have become cheaper."

"The market is literally flooded with Asian products, and some little-known brands have fallen in price even more - by 10-20%," he said. "Russians are voting with their wallets for cheaper tires. The most popular size, R16, now costs around 6,000 rubles per piece, R15 - around 4,5,000, R17 - around 8,100."

At the same time, the expert says that the growth in popularity of used tires is understandable, since they are "many times cheaper." "Although the risk is disproportionate," he adds. "Externally, the tire may look quite decent and still have hidden damage to the frame. In case of a hernia - a bulge on the sidewall due to a cord rupture - traffic rules prohibit the operation of the wheel. Such a tire can burst while driving, especially at high speed. The driver simply won't have time to react."

According to him, "no seller in the 'secondary' market will give a guarantee that the tire has not been repaired with a patch or does not have delamination that is not visible from the outside," so for those who want to save money, it is still recommended to buy new budget tires from Asia and "in this case, focus on the results of independent tests, rather than the country of origin."
