Why Russians choose studded tires

In Russia, studded tires are traditionally in the highest demand in winter, as confirmed by a recent survey by "Autostat". 77.2% of respondents said they prefer studded tires, and analysts decided to find out what motivates their choice.

Almost every second driver (45.7%) expectedly stated that they use studded tires due to the climate of their region of residence: "It's impossible to drive without studs". In addition, 41.4% of respondents said they simply always choose only "studs", and almost equal results were obtained for the answers "Studded tires are better suited for Russian roads" and "It's safer to drive on 'studs' in winter" - 36.3% and 36%, respectively.

Approximately every eighth (12.7%) respondent noted that they live outside the city, where the choice of tires is related to the operating conditions of the vehicle. In addition, as a reason for refusing to use friction tires, car owners cited the nature of their work, which involves frequent travel, and frequent trips on snowy highways between cities (9.1%), and 4.5% said they chose studded tires due to their limited driving experience.
