Pirelli releases new summer tires Cinturato
Pirelli introduced a new summer tire Cinturato (C3) for passenger cars and crossovers, designed for both the original equipment segment and the secondary market, and "thanks to the widespread use of virtual modeling, it is a benchmark for safety and energy efficiency" in line with the Italian company's eco-safety strategy.
Tests conducted by the independent organization DEKRA showed that the new Pirelli tires outperform their competitors - Bridgestone Turanza 6, Continental PremiumContact 7, Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2, and Michelin Primacy 4+ - in terms of braking properties on dry asphalt, while the Cinturato tires received the highest "A" rating for wet braking efficiency across the entire size range. Additionally, the mileage has increased by 20% compared to the previous generation of tires, and the reduced rolling resistance helps to save fuel.
According to Pirelli, the various qualities of the new product were improved primarily due to the use of innovative rubber compounds with materials developed and patented by the company. It is reported that thanks to the new compounds, developers can simultaneously improve conflicting characteristics such as braking properties, durability, and economy, which became possible due to a unique star-shaped polymer and special resins.
The rubber compound also includes a new generation of silica called SmartNet Silica, consisting of elongated elements arranged in the direction of vehicle movement, resulting in improved traction and stability when cornering, as well as reduced rolling resistance on straight roads. Additionally, exclusive Pirelli technologies such as Elect (tires adapted for use on electric and hybrid vehicles) will be used.
In Pirelli's range, the new tires join the all-season Cinturato All Season SF 3, presented last year, and the winter Cinturato Winter 2, which has shown good results in a number of tests since its debut.
The first Cinturato tires were introduced in the 1950s and were designed for single-seater Formula 1 and rally cars, becoming Pirelli's first radial tires. The name of the tire, which can be translated as "belted", refers to the radial construction of the carcass, reinforced with textile or metal cord for improved strength and stability. Over the years, several specialized Cinturato tires have been released for various applications, making the line the most popular in Pirelli's portfolio. Cinturato tires are also installed on premium vehicles around the world, with 145 homologations alone in the last five years.
The new tires have entered the market in 17 sizes from 205/55 R16 to 245/35 R20.
