Pirelli has developed new slicks for GT class racing
In line with its policy of continuous development of its range of tyres for motorsport, Pirelli has introduced new slick tyres for GT2, GT3 and GT4 class cars, which will be used in all GT category championships in which the company is involved. The tyres have been named Pirelli P Zero DHG, and the company notes that compared to the previous generation model, presented in 2022, the new tyre features a number of technical innovations, including some not directly related to driving qualities.
With the release of the DHG, the company completes the update of its GT racing tyre range, which previously included the introduction of the Cinturato WHB wet tyre. The new slick tyres replace the DHF model, which has been used for three years and, according to Pirelli, has been highly appreciated by teams and drivers for its versatility and reliability in all conditions.
The P Zero DHG is available in several sizes and is suitable for all GT racing classes, with the main differences from the DHF being new materials that expand the tyre's working range, accelerate warm-up and improve the ability of the slicks to maintain their characteristics over long distances.
The Cinturato WHB wet tyres, introduced in 2024 and initially designed for GT2 cars, and in some championships also for GT3 machines, will this season become standard for all major GT class racing series in which Pirelli participates. In 2025, the WHB compound was enriched with FSC-certified natural rubber, and innovative materials allowed for increased tread stiffness, stabilised the contact patch, improved grip and accelerated warm-up at low temperatures. Furthermore, aquaplaning resistance has increased, and the working range has been expanded.
The FSC certification has also been obtained for the new DHG, and it is also present on the tyres for Formula 1, with Pirelli becoming the first company in the global motorsport industry to use FSC-certified natural rubber. Now, all Pirelli GT racing tyres feature this symbol, indicating that the natural rubber used was sourced from plantations that ensure biodiversity and the well-being of people living and working in the region. The certification process confirms that certified materials are not mixed with others during delivery from the plantations to the tyre factories.
"The extension of the use of certified natural rubber confirms Pirelli's commitment to seeking new solutions for a more rapid increase in the sustainability of motorsport, together with the FIA and the promoters of the various championships," the company noted.
The new tyres made their debut on March 10 at the Paul Ricard circuit in Le Castellet, France, during the pre-season tests of the GTWC Europe series, which Pirelli describes as one of the most important and exciting international championships in the GT class.
