Kumho introduced new tires for crossovers

At the partner conference Kumho in Seoul, a presentation of new all-season tires Kumho Crugen GT Pro for crossovers and SUVs took place. Since electric vehicles are becoming increasingly popular in this segment, the tires have been improved taking into account their characteristics and are able to withstand the loads associated with increased torque and weight of electric vehicles, as well as reduced noise levels.

To make the tires effective in any season (in a mild climate), a new-generation rubber compound was created, and wavy lamellas and longitudinal grooves with increased width were added to the tread pattern. In addition, Crugen GT Pro became the first Korean SUV tire to be classified as a second-class energy-efficient tire in the regional labeling system (there are five classes in total), and it also received a high UTQG 800 wear rating in all sizes, with the manufacturer claiming that the tires can last 20% longer than products from competing brands.

According to Kumho CEO Jeon Il-taek, consumers are switching from passenger cars to SUVs, and the new product meets market trends and "perfectly combines comfort and economy, which are the most important factors for owners of family crossovers".

Crugen GT Pro also features a new sidewall design with Kumho Reliable Technology labeling, which "symbolizes Kumho Tire's technological superiority", while the K-Noise Defender inscription indicates that the tread pattern has been modified for noise reduction. In addition, in some sizes, the sidewalls "are made using micro-laser processing, which makes the inscriptions look clearer and more elegant, increasing the visual appeal of the tires".

In the Kumho lineup, the new tires will occupy a position between the Crugen HP51 for the more mass market and the Ecsta PS71 SUV, developed for sports crossovers.

According to the company, the development of new tires is related to the growing demand for medium and large-sized crossovers in the Korean market, and the testing took four years, as it was necessary to ensure optimal driving characteristics in any situation.

Kumho Crugen GT Pro has entered the Korean market in 55 sizes, from 215/55R18 to 325/35ZR22.
