
Kumho will start using a driving simulator
Kumho Tire has signed a partnership agreement with the British company Ansible Motion, a developer of automotive driving simulators. The signing ceremony was attended by Kumho's Research and Development Director Kim Yong Jin and Ansible Motion's Managing Director Dan Clark. This partnership is expected to enable the Korean company to utilize digital modeling technologies to improve the performance characteristics of its tires, including UHP class and those designed for electric vehicles.
Ansible Motion develops driving simulators that accurately replicate real-world road conditions, allowing for the evaluation of the impact of tires on parameters such as dynamics, safety, and comfort in a virtual environment. The use of such equipment will help Kumho reduce the costs and time associated with physical prototype testing and more effectively evaluate tire characteristics in the early stages of development. This will enable the company to "respond faster to the rapid changes in the mobility sector and expand its R&D capabilities through the application of digital technologies".
"The collaboration with Ansible Motion will allow us to take our product development processes to a new level with a focus on digitalization," said Kim. "We will actively utilize advanced modeling technologies to create high-performance and high-efficiency products optimized for future mobility and strengthen our competitiveness in the global market".
Clark, in turn, noted that "the partnership with Kumho Tire will be an important example of how new modeling technologies accelerate the implementation of innovations in the tire industry". "We look forward to contributing to the development of the mobility industry through the technological synergy between our companies," he added.
Driving simulators are already being used by leading global tire manufacturers, and in Korea, similar equipment was recently adopted by the company Nexen.
