Cordiant in Europe
11 february 2010
Cordiant shares its impressions of the journey along the most beautiful and dangerous mountain road in Europe.
Cordiant, without changing its tradition of holding informal meetings with Russian journalists specializing in the automotive theme, once again put its new Cordiant Sport 2 tires to the test in the format of Cordiant Press Race. This time, the team of organizers with journalists conquered new heights - Transfagarasan (Transfagarasan). This is one of the most mountainous and risky routes in Europe, located in the center of Romania.
Media representatives set out to meet adventures to truly assess what the Cordiant Sport 2 tires are capable of on steep turns and dangerous turns flooded with rain. The first day of the trip ended with a stop in the city of Sibiu. The car in which the expedition traveled - Ford Focus 2.5 - was equipped with Cordiant Sport 2 tires - the ideal choice for mountain roads. After all, excellent handling is achieved due to the specific arrangement of blocks and longitudinal grooves on the outer side of the asymmetric tread and special channels on the inner side, which perfectly drain water.
Ahead is a long road of over 300 kilometers, 80 of which pass through the mountainous terrain of the Carpathians along the famous Transfagarasan road. This road was built during the reign of Nicolae Ceausescu between 1970 and 1974. The road is very winding, with many S-shaped turns and steep spirals.
But from the very beginning, the weather did not work out - either a strong rain was pouring, or an impenetrable fog was falling on the road. But isn't such weather needed to test the reliability of tires, the feature of which is active driving and impeccable water drainage from the contact patch? The expedition overcame slippery steep turns, sometimes under 180 degrees, relying entirely on their intuition and the capabilities of the Cordiant tires. The impenetrable cloudiness was also only a help - it hid behind itself the frightening holes of the abyss. The Cordiant Sport 2 tires gave a sense of confidence behind the wheel of the car even on such an unpredictable and dangerous road, in short, they did not fail.
In the second part of the mountain pass, travelers had to overcome on the second day of the trip. The weather improved significantly - the clouds rose a little higher, revealing magnificent landscapes on the most beautiful route in the world. And after the mountain range, the route passed through the highway to Bucharest. But as soon as the travelers got on it, a strong rain started again, which did not allow them to develop a speed of more than 150 km/h. In such weather conditions, even the windshield wipers did not cope with their work. But the Cordiant tires did not fail this time either - even at high speed, they reliably "held the road".
By the end of the expedition, it was clear that the new Cordiant Sport 2 tires had passed the test of strength. They did not fail on the dangerous sections of the Transfagarasan, demonstrating excellent traction properties both on the slippery serpentine road and on the high-speed highway. The next Cordiant Press Race is scheduled for winter 2010!
