Major All-Season Tire Test by AvD — 2025
As part of its first tire test after a 50-year break, the German automobile club AvD (Automobilclub von Deutschland) compared 27 sets of all-season tires of all price categories in three sizes on snow, dry, and wet asphalt, with Tempotire, a leading tire testing service provider, as a partner.
The sizes chosen were 205/55 R16, 205/45 R17, and 235/60 R18, and since safety is a crucial parameter, the ratings in disciplines such as braking and handling have higher weight than, for example, in tests for economy or external noise level. Additionally, due to the moderate German climate, the weight of the ratings on dry and wet asphalt was higher than on snow (40% versus 20%).
A simple 5-point rating system was used for clarity, and in each test, the tire with the best price-quality ratio (with a final rating of at least "Good") was also determined, taking into account the average cost of tires from several dealers.
All-season tires are becoming increasingly popular in Germany and other European countries, and AvD says that if they were previously unable to compete with summer and winter tires and were primarily considered an option for small cars, they now have increasingly balanced characteristics in various weather conditions and are available in almost any size. At the same time, as the tests confirm, there are significant differences between the tires, and it's not just about the price segment they belong to.
In the test of 205/55 R16 tires, which are usually installed on compact cars such as the Volkswagen Golf, 10 models were compared, from premium to budget. For snow testing, Bridgestone provided its polygon in Sweden, and the properties of the tires on wet and dry asphalt were evaluated on the company's track in Italy.
The winner of the test was the Continental AllSeasonContact 2 tire, which received the highest rating - 4.5 points - on both dry and wet surfaces. The Bridgestone Turanza All Season 6 and Pirelli Cinturato All Season SF 3 tires shared second place, and the Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen-3 and Vredestein Quatrac also showed high results and received a "Very Good" rating.
The relatively inexpensive Linglong Grip Master 4S tire (the company is changing the name of this line to Sport Master) could have earned the award for the best price-quality ratio, but it was unable to receive a "Good" rating due to average results in three safety-related disciplines (braking and handling on snow, as well as longitudinal aquaplaning resistance). For this reason, the Kleber Quadraxer 3 tire was recognized as the best in terms of price-quality, without similar weaknesses. The Firestone Multiseason Gen-2 and especially the Tomket Allyear 3 tires showed the worst results, significantly worsening handling and unable to quickly stop the car on a wet road.

In the 205/45 R17 size, nine tire models were tested, all installed on the Mazda MX-5 Roadster, and snow testing was conducted on Continental's track in Sweden, while asphalt testing was conducted on the Contidrom polygon in Germany.
According to the test results, three tires received a "Very Good" rating, and the Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen-3 almost made it to the leaders but was let down by relatively low braking efficiency on dry asphalt. The first place was taken by the Pirelli Cinturato All Season SF 3, which demonstrated excellent aquaplaning resistance and superior braking qualities in all conditions, the second place was taken by the Continental AllSeasonContact 2, which has an enviable balance of characteristics, and the third place was taken by the Bridgestone Turanza All Season 6, which also received good ratings in all disciplines.
The Linglong Grip Master 4S tire was able to earn the status of the tire with the best price-quality ratio this time, and, according to experts, "this once again proves that Chinese manufacturers are quickly improving the quality of their products - not only in the automotive but also in the tire sector". At the same time, two other budget tires - Milever All Season Versat MC545 and Tomket Allyear 3 - work very poorly on wet surfaces, resulting in both receiving a "Not Recommended" rating.

Finally, in the 235/60 R18 size, tires from eight brands were tested, with the Skoda Enyaq electric car chosen as the test vehicle, and the tests were conducted on Pirelli's polygons in Sweden and Italy.
The most effective 18-inch tire was the Pirelli Scorpion All Season SF 3, which outperformed the Continental AllSeasonContact 2 and Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen-3 SUV, which also received a "Very Good" rating. All three tires showed themselves from the best side, especially in handling tests, but Pirelli had a small advantage due to very short braking distances. The Bridgestone Turanza All Season 6 and Michelin CrossClimate 2 SUV tires had to be content with only fourth and fifth places, respectively, as they were not as confident on wet surfaces.
The best tire in terms of price-quality was the Maxxis Premitra All Season AP3 SUV, which showed good results in almost all disciplines, while the cheap Everton Contral A/S tires became "not recommended" due to very low performance on both wet and dry asphalt.
