Almost 80 thousand defective tires

The North American division of Michelin is forced to recall 77,775 truck tires from sale. It turned out that this batch of tires has insufficient carcass strength, which can cause a sudden loss of air.

The defective tires will be replaced and disposed of free of charge.

The Michelin branch in Spartanburg (South Carolina, USA) was marked with a "minus" sign. The following tire models will be withdrawn from sale:

- Michelin XZU3 size 305/85R22.5 LRJ, produced from October 23, 2005 to September 3, 2011;
- Michelin XZU2 size 12R22.5 LRJ, produced from October 23, 2005 to September 3, 2011;
- Michelin XM505 size 305/85R22.5 LRJ, produced from April 18 to May 6, 2010 and from January 23 to February 12, 2011.

The company claims that most of these tires are used to equip intercity buses. In an unfavorable scenario, this could have led to certain problems.

In 2010 and 2011, a similar situation occurred. At that time, car owners who used tires with restored tread complained to the company about problems related to insufficient carcass strength. One person even suffered an injury as a result.
