The Toyo Proxes Sport summer tire is the flagship of the model line of the Japanese tire giant, offered by it for cars equipped with powerful engines. At the same time, it is worth noting that during its development, the requirements of European car enthusiasts were taken into account, who are more tolerant of a not sufficiently high level of comfort than of shortcomings in handling characteristics. In this model, the developers managed to achieve maximum performance on the racing track without significant damage to the convenience of everyday use.

Asymmetric arrangement of tread elements

As you know, during movement, different parts of the tire tread are affected by different types of effects. This is especially pronounced at high speeds. It is for this reason that the developers preferred to use a tread pattern with an asymmetric arrangement of elements, from which several functional zones are formed.

In particular, the inner side of the tread is "tuned" to ensure maximum performance when slowing down, preventing the occurrence of aquaplaning and protecting against uneven wear. In turn, the outer part is used to improve traction and handling when maneuvering and turning.

Design of the inner side of the tread

The inner side of the tire tread is characterized by the presence of several longitudinal ribs. Due to the absence of breaks, these elements are highly rigid, which further improves the efficiency of the blocks in the shoulder area. This design reduces the length of the braking distance, and when maneuvering, it optimizes the distribution of external pressure on the contact patch.

In addition, in this part of the tread, there are two very wide drainage grooves. This is enough to prevent aquaplaning even at high speeds.

Features of the design of the outer side of the tread

When developing the tire, much attention was paid to ensuring the maximum speed of transmission of transverse acceleration forces to the power components of the carcass. To do this, a whole complex of measures was used, which were mainly applied when creating the tread design. Its outer side contains very large blocks. At the same time, those that are located closer to the center of the tread are combined into groups by rigid bridges that limit their mutual mobility. This design, among other things, significantly increases the size of the contact patch, which further improves the handling characteristics of the tire. A large part of it falls on traction when maneuvering, braking, resistance to uneven wear, and fuel efficiency.

Wide longitudinal rib in the center

For the largest tire sizes of this model, the Japanese manufacturer offers it with a modified tread pattern design. The main difference is the presence of a double longitudinal rib in the center. The main functional purpose of this element is to further increase stability and handling when driving at high speeds.
