The Sumitomo SC890 all-season passenger tire, from one of Japan's most renowned manufacturers, is designed for use primarily on passenger vehicles of various classes.
The tire's tread is equipped with a non-directional symmetric pattern, which features an original external appearance. In the center of the tread, there are three longitudinal ribs, each of which is a separate row of blocks, the shape and arrangement of which are a distinctive feature of this tire. These blocks have a rhomboid shape, and their arrangement scheme gives the tread pattern an S-shaped appearance. This solution has significantly improved traction and reduced the dependence of handling characteristics on the type of surface, in other words, the tire demonstrates reliable and stable behavior in various road conditions.
Additionally, the layout scheme has allowed for a significant reduction in noise levels due to the arrangement of blocks with an uneven step in relation to each other, which ultimately led to an increase in comfort while driving. Another characteristic feature of the S-shaped pattern of this tire is the large contact area, thanks to which the Sumitomo SC890 tire demonstrates excellent traction and grip performance. The large number of blocks will not be superfluous when overcoming snow barriers.
The three central ribs and two shoulder zones are separated from each other by four longitudinal grooves, the width and depth of which effectively remove not only water but also snow slush and dirt. To provide additional resistance to aquaplaning and to improve the self-cleaning characteristics of the tread pattern, the tire is equipped with a multitude of transverse channels.
