The Chinese brand has made a bet on a pragmatic design in the Rauffan Astrar R3 model. This is a summer tire for passenger cars that work daily, both in city jams and on out-of-town highways. The main tasks in development were to reduce rolling resistance without losing controllability and to guarantee protection against overheating during prolonged driving in the heat. The solution was found at the level of the geometry of the central ribs and the lightweight carcass.
3 "ribs": directional stability and fight against skidding
In the central zone of the tread, there are three medium-sized ring ribs. On each, there are small diagonally directed grooves. From an engineering point of view, this gives a double effect:
- on a straight road, they work like rigid guides. The car does not wander across the lane, does not require constant steering, even with gusts of wind;
- in a turn, the diagonal grooves inside the ribs create additional grip edges, directed at an angle to the vector of movement. This actively resists lateral skidding and drift, maintaining the set trajectory.
Increasing the contact patch for stability
The designers have expanded the shoulder areas compared to the base models. Why? When entering a turn, the outer side of the tire is subjected to the main load. A wide "shoulder" increases the actual contact area and evenly distributes the load. It also stabilizes the car when making turns. As a result, the vehicle feels confident, both on high-speed highway sections and when making frequent lane changes in dense city traffic.
Drainage system
To prevent the tire from "floating", fast water evacuation is needed. The tire's drainage complex is built on a combination of central longitudinal grooves - they accept the main water flow from under the middle of the contact area. As well as opening channels in them - short radial slots on the ribs collect moisture and instantly drain it into the main grooves. As a result, a developed network is formed that can handle any water volume. The risk of hydroplaning is minimized even in heavy rain and at speeds above 80 km/h.
Lightweight carcass
Modern weight reduction technologies are applied in production - the layers of the breaker and carcass are optimized without losing their bearing capacity. This gives the owner:
- less unsprung mass - easier handling and softer ride;
- minimized rolling resistance - the tire does not "consume" energy on internal friction. The car is easier to accelerate and rolls longer;
- confirmed fuel savings of up to 3-5% in the mixed cycle compared to heavy analogs.
