The Pirelli Scorpion Winter ELT winter tire is designed for crossovers and SUVs, whose owners prefer an active driving style. It is characterized by excellent stability and reliability of handling on any slippery surfaces, while demonstrating a low noise level and good fuel efficiency for such models.
Depending on the size, the tread pattern features two or four longitudinal drainage grooves. In both cases, the large volume of these elements ensures high water and heavy mixture of snow and road slush evacuation from the contact patch. The drainage grooves in the shoulder areas, directed against the direction of movement, play a significant role in this.
The tread pattern features a V-shaped directional design with a very dense arrangement of elements in the central part. This solution, combined with the optimized profile of the tire's tread, provides stable traction and sporty handling on dry surfaces, especially during dynamic maneuvering and at high speeds.
The tread elements are modules consisting of blocks of a certain shape and lamellas cut into them. This solution significantly improves traction and handling, especially on slippery wet and snow-covered surfaces. The "three-dimensional" lamellas, located at a slight angle, allow for effective transmission of braking and traction forces to the road surface with very smooth skidding in such conditions.
The tread is made of a rubber compound, the properties of which were specially selected based on the characteristics of crossover and SUV operation in winter conditions. The ultra-high "silica" content provides the tread with elasticity at extremely low temperatures, and in combination with polymers and a special compounding technology, it provides resistance to heat, abrasive wear, punctures, and cuts.
