Description Pirelli Scorpion S3
Pirelli Scorpion S3 of the third generation — is not just a "restyling" of the legendary model that started back in 1986. This is a full-fledged revision of the balance between the stiffness of the carcass and the elasticity of the contact patch, performed using advanced simulation methods.
Managed dynamics
At the development stage, the manufacturer moved away from the classic "empiricism" to virtual prototyping. More than 20 different design options for the tread pattern and profile were "tested" in a digital environment before the first physical sample was cast in a mold. This allowed for highly accurate prediction of the tyre's behavior on a wet road, reduction of aquaplaning, and simultaneous achievement of uniform pressure distribution in the contact area.
Operation in a wide temperature range
In the summer, SUVs are operated in conditions where the asphalt temperature can fluctuate from +5 to +50 °C. Therefore, a polymer matrix was developed for the tyre, which maintains elasticity at various temperatures. This is especially critical for heavy vehicles: under extreme loads, standard compounds tend to "stick" or, on the contrary, become excessively stiff, worsening traction.
The tread pattern is designed to optimize drainage and simultaneously dampen noise vibrations caused by air flows in the grooves. Thanks to the variable pitch of the structures and the complex geometry of the transverse grooves, acoustic comfort of level A/B was achieved according to the European scale. This means that the cabin remains quiet even on high-speed highways, which is essential for premium SUVs.
Readiness for an "electric" future
The model's carcass has increased load-carrying capacity and an reinforced breaker layer — a direct consequence of the increased mass of modern crossovers and electric vehicles. The instantaneous peak torque of electric motors imposes special requirements on the strength of the cord threads and the stability of the sidewall to deformations. That's why the lineup immediately includes versions with the Elect marking — with an optimized profile and reduced rolling resistance.
Key features of Pirelli Scorpion S3:
- full technical compatibility with modern crossovers and SUVs, including those with electric powertrains;
- the reinforced carcass and special compound are designed to work in a wide range of temperatures and masses, including electric and hybrid models with high torque;
- the optimized block pitch and groove shape reduce the noise level, which is critical for long trips on SUVs;
- class B rolling resistance in combination with the reinforced design provides fuel efficiency and increased electric range.
