Summer tyre Pirelli P Zero E is one of the flagships of the "passenger" line of tyres from the Italian brand, specialising in electric vehicles equipped with powerful powertrains. The letter E in the name stands for Efficiency and reflects the main concept of the model - combining sporty handling with high energy efficiency, reduced rolling resistance, and reduced environmental impact. In developing the model, the company used a range of proprietary technologies, allowing it to achieve the maximum "AAA" class according to the European label in three parameters - rolling resistance, grip on a wet road, and external noise.
Architecture and handling
Like other representatives of the Pzero line, the tread pattern features an asymmetric arrangement of elements with their distribution across functional areas. The longitudinal ribs in the central part are responsible for directional stability and quickness, precise reactions to the driver's actions. The shoulder blocks support the stability of the vehicle when cornering and during intense acceleration. The optimised arrangement of longitudinal grooves accelerates the removal of water from the contact patch, reducing the risk of the tyre "floating" over the road surface. At the same time, the profile of the lamellas, smoothed block edges, and gradually decreasing groove width allow for reduced vibrations and lower rolling losses, which on the one hand reduces the load on the powertrain, and on the other hand reduces the level of noise and vibrations. The size of the shoulder blocks has been increased compared to other PZero models, allowing for more effective use of the high torque of the electric motor.
Design - its impact on energy efficiency and handling
The tyre's carcass is designed for operation under high loads characteristic of modern powerful electric vehicles. The design features a rubber compound containing over 55% of materials of biological origin and secondary raw materials. Depending on the version, the model can be equipped with ELECT, PNCS, Seal Inside, and RunForward technologies, which improve efficiency, acoustic comfort, and resistance to damage from punctures. Low rolling resistance contributes to an increase in the range of electric vehicles and a reduction in fuel consumption for vehicles with internal combustion engines.
