The Nokian WR SUV 4 winter tire is used in crossovers and SUVs. It is adapted to operate on paved roads. Designed for the "mild" winters typical of Central European countries. Drainage grooves of a similar configuration not only effectively remove water from under the contact patch but also increase traction with soft surfaces from loose snow. The so-called "waffle" effect is used here, in which the tread captures and compacts the snow in the contact patch. As a result, the traction properties are significantly improved.
Another feature of the drainage grooves is their very smooth surface. In addition to aesthetics in the external appearance of the tire, this solution has exceptional functionality. It significantly increases the speed of water removal from under the contact area, which reduces the risk of aquaplaning.
