The Nitto Terra Grappler G2 is an All Terrain tyre designed for SUVs and pickup trucks whose routes combine asphalt with unpaved roads. Its tread features numerous blocks with aggressive shoulder lugs. Connecting bridges between elements and a variable pitch pattern help maintain road handling and comfort, while open shoulder zones provide additional biting edges off the asphalt.

Interconnected blocks

Reinforced connecting bridges are positioned between outer and central blocks. They restrict excessive block flexing under driving, braking, and lateral forces. This helps the tread retain necessary stiffness, contributing to precise steering response and more even wear. This design allows the use of a highly segmented tread pattern without excessive movement of individual blocks on hard surfaces.

Full-depth sipes

The blocks are cut with numerous sipes that extend to the full depth of the tyre tread. Their edges help disrupt the water film in the contact patch and assist large grooves in wet conditions. As the tyre wears, the sipes remain present in the tread, preserving additional working edges. Meanwhile, the main longitudinal and transverse channels provide pathways for water evacuation from the contact area.

Traction on loose surfaces

The shoulder lugs are staggered relative to each other. Their protruding edges create additional points of traction force application on loose soil and sand. The shoulder tread pattern extends onto the sidewall, increasing the working area when the wheel sinks into a soft surface. This is beneficial on unpaved approaches and sections where a standard road tread pattern receives less support.

Acoustic comfort on asphalt

During tread design, computer analysis was used to optimize block placement. Elements with variable pitch make contact with the road at different intervals, reducing the prominence of repetitive drone noise. This approach helps lower rolling noise on highways while maintaining the block structure necessary for driving on uneven surfaces.
