Computer-designed tread pattern
This light truck tire Nankang NR066 is equipped with a tread featuring an S-shaped symmetrical non-directional pattern, which is the result of the widespread use of computer modeling tools. One of its key features is the solid design of both shoulder zones, which have no breaks throughout their entire length. Thanks to this original solution, the Taiwanese tire makers were able to address a number of issues, from directional stability and rolling resistance to resistance to uneven wear.
As for the central part of the tread, it is occupied by three longitudinal ribs, each representing a series of individual blocks. Their large number allows for a contact patch with a multitude of sharp edges, which significantly improves traction and grip. Additionally, the massive size of the blocks and the beveled edges should be noted. This has made it possible to ensure a more even distribution of external pressure on the contact patch, while reducing the level of noise generated by such a large number of tread elements. However, this is only an additional measure to combat noise. The main contribution is made by the multi-step scheme of arranging the tread blocks, which practically completely eliminates the possibility of resonance noise.
