Open design of the Nankang N850 tread pattern

A distinctive feature of the non-directional tread of this model is its fairly open design. It contains a significant number of small blocks that form five longitudinal ribs. Due to the functions they perform, these tread elements differ significantly from each other in a number of design features.

In particular, the central rib of the Nankang N850 contains a multitude of longitudinally arranged quadrangular blocks. This gives the tire reduced rolling resistance and excellent handling, stability at high speeds. At the same time, the edges of the blocks formed by the tread improve the longitudinal traction and adhesion properties.

Similar functions are partially performed by the adjacent longitudinal ribs, also composed of individual blocks. However, they have a slightly more square shape, which allows these tread elements to not only improve traction and adhesion characteristics but also optimize the distribution of external load on the contact patch. This, in turn, has a positive effect on the stability of traction and the resistance of the tread to uneven wear.
