The Michelin Road 5 motorcycle tire, like its predecessor the Pilot Road 4, is designed for touring bikes. The absence of the word Pilot in the name is due to the fact that this model is distinguished by improved comfort. This refers not only to the softness of the ride, but also to the grip and directional stability. Additionally, the tire is characterized by the stability of its operational properties, most of which are preserved even with significant wear on the tread.

ACT+

The tire features ACT+ technology, previously tested in the Power RS model. It allows the tire to adapt to different driving modes by changing the stiffness of the carcass. The carcass is a synthetic cord with fibers arranged at different angles. Under the central part of the tread, it is 90 degrees. When driving straight, this feature provides the tire with a soft ride and directional stability. In the shoulder areas and sidewalls, the fibers are wrapped and arranged in an overlap. As a result, this part of the tread provides high stiffness, which improves grip when maneuvering and cornering.

2CT/ 2CT+

In addition to ACT+, the stability of the grip properties is ensured by the 2CT and 2CT+ technologies. Essentially, this is one solution, but with two variants of implementation. The tire for the front wheel uses the simplest of them. The tread is made of two compounds. The central part, which occupies 68% of the total area, is made of an elastic rubber mixture, almost entirely consisting of silica. This provides a soft ride and stability when driving straight. The shoulder areas are made of a compound with a high content of technical carbon, which gives it stiffness and provides better grip when maneuvering. The tire for the rear wheel has an additional layer of tread in the shoulder areas under this compound. It is made of the same rubber mixture as the central part. This improves the longitudinal traction-grip properties when maneuvering and cornering.
