The Michelin company has introduced a new tire, the Michelin Latitude X-Ice North 2. Compared to the previous model, the number of studs has been reduced by 5% (due to the new environmental standard coming into force in 2013 in Sweden and Finland), which has not reduced the braking qualities of the tire in any way.
Despite the reduction in the number of studs, the Durastud System technology has made it possible to reduce the braking distance by 6%. Moreover, thanks to the Full Active Tread technology, it was possible to improve the acceleration dynamics by 15%. Furthermore, on the sidewall of the tire, you can find the GREEN X label, which indicates the high energy efficiency of the tire.
What is Durastud System?
The technology that has increased the braking quality of the tire is based on three "pillars":
- specially designed studs with a hard-plastic insert, which, due to their shape, are reliably secured in the tread;
- a special distribution of studs;
- Michelin's studding technique.
Full Active Tread
Full Active Tread is a tread pattern technology. Its essence lies in the use of new lamella geometry, the lamellas themselves have increased density and a length increased by 6%. Moreover, the length of the tread edges is 64% greater than in the previous model.
Features of the Michelin Latitude X-Ice North 2 tire:
- a reduced number of studs, down to 50 per meter of circumference;
- the use of silica in the rubber mixture reduced rolling resistance by 8%;
- orientation to harsh winter conditions;
- reduced fuel consumption.
Thanks to all the above-mentioned qualities, the Michelin Latitude X-Ice North 2 tires give the driver confidence when driving heavy all-wheel drive cars and crossovers in the conditions of harsh Russian winters. The new tread pattern provides better traction on ice and snow, and the new stud distribution technology, among other things, significantly reduces road wear.
