Michelin Latitude Alpin 2
Tire specifications
DescriptionDescription Michelin Latitude Alpin 2
The Michelin Latitude Alpin 2 winter non-studded passenger tire, like its predecessor, was specifically designed for passenger vehicles with increased off-road capability, operating in conditions of mild European winters. For such a climate, frequent transitions from negative to positive air temperatures are characteristic, which makes road conditions very diverse. When developing this model, the French tire manufacturers faced a challenging task of creating a tire that provides a high level of safety in various conditions. As for the applicability of this tire, the presence of more than two dozen size variants with a wheel mounting diameter from 16 to 21 inches in the lineup allows it to be used on an absolute majority of SUV, pickup, and crossover models. And the speed indexes H and V allow this tire to be installed on the most powerful vehicles in this category.
The versatility of this model is largely ensured by the symmetrical directional tread pattern with a V-shaped design. When creating the tread of this model, a whole range of new and previously well-established technologies were used, many of which were significantly improved.
In particular, the Full Active Tread technology was used, which is a special tread structure, all elements of which work as a single whole. In this case, this feature is successfully combined with a V-shaped design, which in itself has many advantages and is widely used by other tire manufacturers. Among the many advantages of the V-shaped tread pattern, it is worth noting the large contact patch area, the load on which is distributed evenly, and its dimensions remain constant regardless of the driving mode and road surface features. Additionally, this scheme of tread element arrangement provides excellent directional stability, high braking efficiency, especially on snowy and icy surfaces.
However, the most significant technology used in this model was Ridge-n-Flex, which consists of two components - StabiliGrip and Helio Compound 3G.
Thanks to the StabiliGrip technology, the Michelin Latitude Alpin 2 tire was equipped with a large number of special lamellas, located at different angles and cutting through the tread blocks to a great depth. The numerous sharp edges formed by these lamellas easily penetrate the water film on the icy surface, effectively gripping even the smallest irregularities, and their diverse orientation allows for traction in all directions. In addition, the special structure of the lamella walls allows them to be firmly fixed to each other when in contact with the road surface, which significantly increases the stiffness of the tread blocks. This, in turn, allowed for a significant improvement in the tire's basic characteristics on dry surfaces.
The Helio Compound 3G technology is the third generation of a well-established rubber compound. The combination of silicon-containing components and sunflower oil allowed the tire to have excellent elasticity at temperatures below 7 degrees Celsius. In addition, the new rubber compound provides high resistance to wear, more reliable traction with a wet surface.
The main features of the Michelin Latitude Alpin 2 tire
- A unique V-shaped design of the symmetrical directional tread pattern with a wide and rigid central rib provides excellent traction on various types of surfaces, as well as good directional stability and effective braking, especially on slippery surfaces;
- The StabiliGrip technology allowed the tread to be equipped with an increased number of lamellas, which improved handling and traction characteristics, both on dry and snowy and icy surfaces;
- The new Helio Compound 3G rubber compound gave the tire excellent elasticity at low temperatures, further improving traction on slippery surfaces and increasing the tread's resistance to wear.

Hello. I have been driving on this tire since 2013 in the harsh conditions of the Crimean winter. It is a soft, quiet, and well-manageable tire, suitable for both winter and hunting. I have no complaints whatsoever. It has pulled me out of terrible skids on icy roads, type - GLASS. Size: 265/60/18. After many years of use, I have no complaints regarding the quality of the product or its winter performance. A tire

I chose the tyre intelligently, having reviewed numerous reviews and tests, and I'm very happy with my choice.
My loyalty to the Michelin brand has been formed long before I had the opportunity to experience this particular model (Latitude Alpin 2).

Good tire. True, I've only driven on it a bit. On the marked asphalt under the snow with ice I easily ran off into the curb. Though it's unlikely that any other tire would have helped... Unless the studs were a bit better. So the main thing in winter is to drive slower, go further.
